Social-pedagogical support for preschool children with Down syndrome

Abstract

The article explores and presents the model, stages and program of psychological and pedagogical support for children of preschool age children with Down syndrome within inclusive education.  The theoretical analysis of teaching children with special needs in special educational institutions is made - the advantages and disadvantages of such a system.  The issue of inclusive education as an integrated process of ensuring equal access to quality education for children with special educational needs is considered through the organization of their training in general educational institutions based on the application of personally oriented teaching methods, taking into account the individual peculiarities of educational and cognitive activity of such children.  An attempt was made to uncover the uniqueness of the phases of psychological and pedagogical support for children of preschool age with Down syndrome, the specifics of psychological help and methods of correction.  It is proved that in order to fulfill the tasks of inclusion it is necessary to have a clear and logical idea about the peculiarities of development and the specific characteristics that distinguish children with Down syndrome among others, as well as to have psychological tools for psycho-correction work with them.  In this case, inclusive education is considered as an integrated process of ensuring equal access to quality education for children with special educational needs by organizing their training in general educational institutions on the basis of the application of personally oriented teaching methods, taking into account the individual peculiarities of educational and cognitive activity of such children.  The methodological approaches to the readiness of a child with Down syndrome to study at an inclusive school are generalized.  The paper presents the general strategy, structure, the basic principles, methodological approaches and content of a special program aimed at psychological assistance to preschool children with Down syndrome.  Conclusions are made regarding psychological and pedagogical support of children of preschool age with Down syndrome within inclusive education.
